The Biggest Mistake on Social Media

STOP! Before you start marketing on social media, make sure you don’t make this mistake.

Whether you’ve used Social Media to market your business for past year or past decade, it’s very possible you’ve made this mistake: Solicitation

How many times have you received a notification from Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, or even Tik Tok and when you opened it, you were immediately disappointed to see “Hey! I would love to set up a call with you so you can use my services!”?

If you’re a typical consumer, you can see how some random company / business is immediately reaching out to you only for solicitation purposes. And frankly, it’s unwarranted and takes the social aspect out of “Social Media”.

This doesn’t mean that you have to write off using social media to market your business. Rather, flip the script: Tell, don’t sell. By providing value to your potential consumer first through your content. The value you provide doesn’t necessarily have to be educational, entertainment value is also valuable! Through your content, you are able to provide viewers insight into your business they might not have known prior.

Providing value is key. Can your product or service add value to your consumer? Is your product/service able to solve problems, or accomplish difficult tasks with ease? That is your value. Regardless of what you are selling, discontinue hard selling on your social media profiles. Give value, tell a story, and allow the viewer to make a decision.
